Community Energy Program
In an age of consumer awareness and empowerment, communities are increasingly seeking input into how their energy is generated, used and managed. The rise of this trend requires rethinking traditional approaches to community energy and innovating the ways in which generators, developers, distributors, governments and innovators work together. The Advanced Energy Centre’s (AEC) Community Energy program facilitates engagement between these actors and explores the innovative trends affecting how Canadian communities produce and consume energy. To this end, the Centre is currently supporting three initiatives in Ontario, reaching from off-grid communities in Northern Ontario to a downtown urban development in Ottawa.
