As Toronto has emerged as one of the key global financial technology (fintech) hubs, it was a pleasure to host Startupbootcamp, one of London’s largest fintech accelerators, which brought its international fintech showcase to Toronto last week.
MaRS and Toronto were chosen as the only showcase location in Canada as a part of Startupbootcamp’s international efforts to identify global hubs that have a high concentration of fintech-related startups.
After a careful review of applications, Startupbootcamp invited 10 of the hottest fintech startups in Toronto to pitch their companies in front of industry executives, angel and venture investors, and others involved in the local fintech community. These 10 companies now have the ability to apply to Startupbootcamp’s international programs in London and Singapore, enabling them to expand their venture into these other global fintech hubs through MaRS’ partnership with the accelerator.
Voted as Europe’s best fintech startup accelerator in 2014, Startupbootcamp specializes in expanding fintech startups globally by giving them direct access to an international network of the most relevant partners, investors and mentors in their sector.
As a part of MaRS’ fintech international plans, we hope to expand our partnership with Startupbootcamp to provide Canadian fintech startups with a landing place in London and throughout Europe. We plan to explore similar partnerships in major fintech hubs, including Hong Kong, New York City and São Paulo. In June, I will be leading a fintech mission to São Paulo with a handful of selected MaRS fintech ventures, along with a few financial institutions, to evaluate the fintech landscape in South America. Look for my next blog post soon on fintech in Brazil.
In the meantime, stay current with all things fintech with our FinTechTO Pressly news hub. The hub contains breaking news about all the people, places and companies in the sector.
