Our life sciences and health care practice took three MaRS clients on the road to Vancouver last month to attend the 2011 BioPartnering North America (BPNA) meeting, the first major life sciences business event of the year.
Attended by the representatives from the entire bio-pharma community, BPNA is a magnet for business development in this sector.
Given the high attendance of multinational pharmaceutical companies, their willingness to consider early opportunities and the strong partnering focus of the meeting, it was an ideal opportunity for some of our most promising drug development companies to show off their stuff.
We invited biotech clients to present to a panel of experts here at home and selected the three attending companies:
- Antibe Therapeutics – Designing novel anti-inflammatory drugs
- Armour Therapeutics – Developing a prostate cancer drug
- Fluorinov Pharma – Using fluorine to create new drugs
Next, we engaged in a month-long process of pitch optimization and value proposition review to ensure that the companies would be in good shape to engage with likely pharma partners.
The result? Our clients met with 10 pharma companies and 30 other biotech and service-related companies. They’re now busily engaged in follow-ups that may result in partnerships or licenses.
Overall a very productive outing – we’ll be back in 2012!
