MaRS client Echologics Engineering Inc. acquired by Mueller Water Products
Echologics is a world-leader in technologies for water loss management, leak detection and pipe condition assessment
Toronto, January 6, 2011—Echologics Holdings, the parent company of Echologics Engineering Inc., has been acquired by Atlanta-based Mueller Water Products Inc.
Echologics’s lead product, LeakFinderRT, analyses acoustic and vibration levels on municipal water supply systems to identify the locations of leaks from pipes—where a significant amount of potable water can be lost before it reaches consumers. LeakFinderRT is used in cities around the world, including London (UK), New Orleans, Las Vegas, Chicago and Resolute, Nunavut.
The company will continue to operate under the Echologics name as a division of Mueller. Mueller manufactures and markets products and services that are used in the transmission and distribution of safe, clean drinking water and in water treatment facilities throughout North America.
“Echologics enhances our ability to provide municipalities with the essential products and services needed in the transmission and distribution of drinking water,” says Gregory E. Hyland, Chairman, President and CEO of Mueller Water Products.
Echologics, a MaRS client since 2007, worked with advisors in MaRS’ cleantech practice to develop and implement a marketing strategy.
“Echologics has been a MaRS client since shortly after our inception. Our relationship with MaRS provided us with assistance in marketing plan development and intelligence, as well as management consulting. The resulting business model that evolved over the last several years was instrumental in the company becoming an acquisition target,” says Mark Bracken, President of Echologics.
This is the third successful acquisition of a company that’s worked with MaRS Advisory Services—and the first acquisition of company that’s worked with MaRS’ cleantech practice. In November 2010, MaRS client Cognovision was acquired by Intel Corporation and in July 2010, MaRS client Sysomos was acquired by Marketwire. Both Cognovision and Sysomos worked with MaRS’ information technologies, communications and entertainment practice.
